New Covenant Church had been located at 7200 Paseo Del Norte for several years in the former YWCA building. They began considering the need for a larger facility about 5 years ago, and after a few years of going back and forth on whether to remodel and add onto the existing building or build an entirely new church on the land they owned directly west of the existing building, it was decided to pursue the latter. EPC approval was obtained as a three phased project, the first of which was the worship center and associated spaces, and future phases include an office and fellowship wing to the east and a classroom wing to the north. The worship center was designed to seat 650 people with an adjacent chapel that could be used in conjunction with worship center functions as well as smaller independent activities such as weddings. The architecture is a contemporary interpretation of northern New Mexico religious architecture, which is expressed through massing and the use of corrugated metal roofing.
